Hydrant Control System in Airports. CLH.

The control system consists of a PLC (ABB's Procontic MPST) which controls equipment and systems that provide services to the airplane's combustible supplier at airports. Previously it was supervised by a SCADA system dedicated in Windows environment, sending it to the ABB's Advant system on Unix, integrating it with the rest of CLH's system.

The hydrant system is a ring where is continuously recirculating the product (kerosene). This ring is fed by two kind of pumps: jockey pumps and supply pumps. This ring roam the airport area where the airplanes' supply takes effect. During the airplane's refueling, the kerosene is transferred to the airplane's deposits from a spout (hydrant). This procedure is controlled by the PLC's programs.

The integration in CLH's system permits that the PLC's configuration parameters can be changed from manager's work station, and also PLC's controlled signal can be displayed in the CLH's system OS, by the same way some signal's historics can be generated. Communications with PLC are managed by a communications program via IMS's IOLAN. This program does the connection with PLC (via communications protocol), loads the PLC's configuration initially, specifies the number of pumps, tanks, signals that internal generic program will work with. The whole system is adaptable to the differents airports (Madrid, Malaga and Barcelona), by only changing configuration parameters.

The signals are regitered in IMS's Oracle database to process historics magnitudes.

System's parts:

1. Program of protocol's configuration and management.
2. Application forms of in-line-configuration.
3. Pump's operating report.
4. OS graphics.
5. Magnitudes' historic.

The system is automatic configuring the PLC via protocol when starting, allowing user to modify any parameter, during the system operating, by displaying it on a screen. The user environment, for the configurating parameter's modification, has been developed with Oracle Developer (Forms), integrating it in the screen's structure and with CLH's management system.

In the same way, by historics created in the system's gear database, an hydrant report is showed heeding:

-The data obteined from PLC

-The data calculated, through Oracle Developer (Reports), by communications program.

The integration inside ABB's Advant system for CLH, facilitates the historic's graphics generation of hydrant analog signals because they are registered in the database.

Employed technologies:

  • C Programming (PLC communications protocol, system's configuration and historics request).
  • Oracle's Developer on Unix (Application forms and reports)
  • ABB's System Advant (Graphics and OS user's environment)
