Automation and Telecontrol of Water Treatment plats and Pumping stations at Granada's Tropical Coast. ABB T&D.

Inside the "Ciclo Integral del Agua" ("Water Integral Cycle"), performed by "Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Tropical de Granada" ("Granada Tropical Coast's Communities"), several water treatment plants ("EDAR") and their corresponding pumping stations ("EBAR") have been automated.

They are small EDARs with maximum flow capacity around 5500 m3 by day. Usually they have two treatment lines, so is only one working in winter, and in summer, with the turism, they have both lines working at their maximum efficiency.

Each EDAR is in constant communication with his EBAR via radio.

ABB's Advant Controller 31 PLC series has been used for the control system.

System Description:

The EDAR's control is organized at two CCMs. One ABB's CPU KT94 is placed at each CCM. Every CPU has connected a number of analog, digital, input and output cards through bus cs31.

Each one communicates directly with the computer's control (SCADA) by RS485's series line, using MODBUS protocol.

CPUs are connected inwardly using ARC-NET, by this way, they can exchange signals directly and know element's status of the other CCM.

Every remote stations is equipped with a CPU KT94, with his own control program able to manage the EBAR if it becomes lonely, that is to say that it don't have communication with EDAR.

Remote stations communicates with control computer using MAXOM radio-modems. By this way remote stations can be telecontrolled from EDAR and the control of each stations can know the status of the plant and his superior stations to prevent the water pumping in emergencies.
